Dr Vandana’s mortal remains brought home, thousands pay homage

Kottayam: The mortal remains of Dr Vandana Das, who was brutally attacked by a drug addict at Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital and passed away, were brough to her residence in Muttuchira, Kottayam at 8 pm on Wednesday. The funeral will be conducted at 2 pm on Thursday

Due to the public outpouring of grief for Vandana, traffic has been regulated in the region to facilitate public homage. Ministers VN Vasavan, Roshy Augustine, Chittayam Gopakumar; Adv Job Micheal MLA, ADGP MR Ajithkumar, district panchayat president KV Bindhu, and district police chief K Karthik paid last respects to the doctor.

On Wednesday, the mortal remains were kept at Medical College Hospital and Azeezia Medical College, where Vandana completed her studies, to pay public homage. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Governor Arif Mohammed Khan visited KIMS Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram to pay their last respects.

A suspended school teacher and a drug addict Samdeep, who was brought to Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital in the wee hours of Wednesday by the local police, killed house surgeon Dr Vandana. He reportedly stabbed the doctor six times with a scissor kept on the nearby table and attacked an ambulance driver and the cops who accompanied him to the hospital.
